Skinny and Sick...

Overheard at California Fitness' Starbucks Cafe:

'I'd rather be skinny and sick than my current size!'

Good Lord! For heaven's sake, your current size isn't even close to even being called plump! This lady that I overheard probably is the size of... let's see now... Crap, can't think of any one who is a celebrity to use as an example. WHICH GOES TO SHOW HOW SKINNY OUR CURRENT BATCH OF ACTRESSES ARE!

Which brings me to my point... Are we taking this diet fad a tad too far? What's wrong with being big boned, plump, fat, etc etc...? Are we on some rampage to kill all of them that they feel this inclination to change their appearances overnight? Or is it because of our ideas of what is beauty is like that force them to behave this way?

Once upon a time, being fat was in (circa. Empress Yang GuiFei), then having small feet was fashionable. Then looking moody made a comeback (otherwise known as Goth Culture) and thereafter the druggie look (a.k.a. SKINNY and crap sick)...

Why did I choose to pick the above examples? Well, don't we see a trend? Superficial looks are just that... dictated by what society demands of us. So why are we conforming to such irrational demands? Can't we love ourselves independent of what others think?

This is probably why many individuals with image problems (caused by unreasonable society demands) suffer from low self-esteem. They are soaking up all these intransgient stipulations and treating them as a norm.

So question to all those out there (and maybe a challenge): Why are we unable to see beauty from within and show that beauty from the outside?

Take it easy, Keep it real...
