Singapore Dreaming...
Just caught Singapore Dreaming. Awesome show that deviates from the mainstream Jack Neo brand of movies. Many issues were covered, but one that pops up time and time again: Singaporean's obsession with the 5Cs.
The legendary Singapore 5Cs, the hallmark of success. Condominium, Career, Cash, Credit Card, and, Country Club. Are these really important?
It's sad that often times, we are so obsessed with accumulating as much of the 5Cs as we possibly can that we forget that there are other things in our life that are just as important if not more important. Family? Friends? Sound familiar?
I'm not saying that we shouldn't be bothered by the 5Cs. Sure, by all means go ahead. Who doesn't want to have a comfortable life? But, one shouldn't be obsessed with attaining it. Note that I said 'comfortable'... not extravagant. Being extravagant means just that... having extra. And having extra would inevitably come at the cost of something else. Question is, at the cost of what? Are the 5Cs really worth it? Maybe we can compromise on just 4Cs? 3Cs?
Bottom line: as much as the 5Cs are important, it must not be begotten at the detriment of other facets of our lives...
