Post GE 2006 Forum
Attended my first political forum yesterday. Interesting I must say. I've come to realise that there is imminent hatred (note: word used is HATRED) for the ruling party (although most would like to use the word 'regime' I would stick to this for the time being).
However, what I find objectionable is the fact that most were spewing arguments for the sake of arguing. Nothing constructive was done or discussed. Most issues raised were age old ones that includes the oppression of the media in S'pore and the seemingly everlasting political dynasty in S'pore. What is interesting is that amidst all this discussion, there was little said about the efficiency of the PAP government. It is indeed easier to tear down than to construct.
The education system in S'pore has definitely achieved its goal of producing critical thinkers, but what the system is sorely lacking is critical problem solvers. We can't just raise issues after issues. What is important is that we raise issues and SOLUTIONS, evaluate these, improve on them, and implement them. Problems without resolution will fester, and would turn out to be a time bomb just ticking away, until eventually, it explodes in our faces.
I must add here that I'm not a PAP sympathiser. But I am concerned that many of the youths today are just that, opponents for the sake of opposing. And with that attitude, there would be problems, because it fosters a new generation of people and citizens that expects others to provide solutions once there is noise. Whatever happened to 'Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime'?
Therefore the question would be: Do you want to be spoonfed, or do you want to be proactive? And mind you, if you are to be spoonfed, please quit your endless complaints about not having freedoms, because that is the consequence of being spoonfed.
