The Fuss Behind The Code

There has been recent furore over the opening of The DaVinci Code from the Christian camp, and I can understand why given the multiple claims by Dan Brown that his bestselling book was based on authentic documentations and facts. The Church is worried that Christians would fall prey to the baseless allegations that are being made in the book and movie, and therefore have their faith torn apart.

Hmmm... The part where Brown claims to have authentic documentations sounds pretty dubious since there have been many scholars out there that have gone all out to disprove whatever documentations that have been presented in the book. I won't go into the specifics, but for those that are interested, you can try and catch it here.

The bottomline is, both paperback and screen versions of DVC should be taken purely as that, just purely fictional with great entertainment value. We shouldn't be taking anything that is purported at face value as fact. And those that are so inclined to, should at least scour around for further facts that supports whatever claims that are being highlighted. What I'm trying to get at is that everyone should approach anything and everything with a critical mind and not be naive to the point where everything is taken for the truth.

Don't let Mona Lisa smirk at us, because I reckon that she is smirking at our inability to rationally reason what is fact and what is fiction.
